Top 5 Must Haves: Beauty Addiction

“Beauty ‘addiction'”? I meant “beauty EDITION”…

I will be the first to tell you that I’m not the biggest makeup person, not because I’m just “naturally flawless,” but simply because I have no idea what I’m doing. Winged eyeliner? Forget it. Contour? Jokes. False lashes? Hilarious. But all that aside, I think I have my “natural” yet somewhat “made-up” makeup routine down and I obviously want to share it for you other novices out there, or maybe even some experienced artists who are looking for new products! Here are my top five favorite products at the moment (in no particular order).

Mascara

Voluminous Lash Paradise Waterproof in Blackest Black by L’Oréal
I can’t even begin to tell you how many mascaras I have gone through over the years. Smudge-proof, waterproof, regular, lash extending, curling, the list goes on and on. Thankfully, soon on I realized I needed waterproof because regular mascara kept coming off under my eyes. As you can imagine, this was a huge upset when I had to stop using Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara (the waterproof one just isn’t the same). So began the search for the best product that didn’t flake, came off easy when washing my face, and ultimately didn’t give my raccoon eyes by the end of the day. After hours (yes, literal hours) of research, I came upon Voluminous Lash Paradise by L’Oréal and figured I would give it a try. I have never looked back. It not only lengthens and curls my lashes, but the thing stays on all damn day! My only cons are that towards the end of the bottle it starts to flake a little and it can be slightly difficult to get off after washing my face (although I use a very gentle face wash that may not be the best for makeup removal – my next search).

Under Eye Concealer

Bye Bye Under Eye Illumination Full Coverage Anti-Aging Waterproof Concealer in Light-Medium by it cosmetics
Yet another hard-to-find product for me, and most people because we all want to avoid caking, creases, and just overall the wrong color. I just recently, over the past year, started wearing under eye concealer and I’m not sure how I got through life without it. Bye bye dark circles (pun intended)! After consulting my friends on which was the best out there, I purchased another brand that I was mildly satisfied with. Unfortunately (but also fortunately), I forgot my bottle at home when I was getting ready for brunch at a friend’s place and had massive dark circles due to a night out with little sleep. She saved me with a sample tube of the Bye Bye Under Eye Illumination from one of her many sample packages. I immediately fell in love. While it was slightly sticky, I was able to blend it in perfectly with my beauty blender (God send) and my face immediately brightened up. I can definitely say it has saved me from hearing all my coworkers tell me I looked tired all the time.

Bronzer

Amazon Clay Bronzer Waterproof in Park Ave Princess by Tarte
Bronzer was new to me. I wore it a little in high school but I’m almost positive I did it wrong and probably looked like a baby prostitute. This was a difficult one since it goes pretty much in all the zones where potential breakouts can happen, and we all know how sensitive my skin is. I didn’t want anything sparkly or with a shimmer because that was too made-up for me. I was looking for something subtle that gave me that sun-kissed glow on my deadly-pale skin. Since I’ve used Tarte Amazon Clay products before (see below for highlighter), I decided to take the leap and go for the Amazon Clay Bronzer. After going probably about three weeks with putting it on incorrectly, I watched YouTube videos one after another and I think I got it down pat. You can be the judge if you ever check out my Instagram page.

Highlighter

Tossup: Haloscope in Quartz by Glossier and Amazon Clay Highlighter in Exposed Highlight by Tarte
This was definitely a hard one to choose, since I use these two products interchangeably. Haloscope is a classic Glossier product, and one of the first they put out. I love the way it glides on smoothly with the applicator and gives a nice, dewy effect. The Amazon Clay Highlighter by Tarte was my first-ever highlighter and it’s done me wonders. I typically forgo using a brush and just use my fingertips to apply. Honestly, I choose whichever one I can grab the easiest in the morning before work. BUT, my secret for super glowy, highlighted skin is to use the Haloscope and then put the Tarte on top. Talk about high-shine. I’ve gotten many compliments and I want them to keep coming.

Blush

Lip + Cheeks in Werk by MILK Makeup
I first started using MILK products when I received them in my Birchbox a few years ago and the lip + cheeks product was amazing. I’ve since forgotten the name of the color, but it was just the right amount of peach and pink to give a flushed look. However, on a recent trip to Sephora, I noticed they had come out with a new Lip + Cheeks color in Werk that is more of a mauve/dusty rose color, which works really well with my pale and tanned skin. It’s a little darker, but with proper blending it looks fantastic! I also love the tube applicator that all their products come in for seamless blending and precision on the face.

While I have many other makeup choices in the morning when I’m rushing to work, these are my top favorites and my go-tos for my day-to-day, and even night. Not convinced? Check out my Instagram page and see for yourself how each product looks on my face! Definitely let me know in the comments (or a more private DM) if I’m wayyyy off!

Top 3

Sweet baby Yeezus I can’t believe I haven’t written anything since May!
Mind you, I wasn’t doing anything more important or exciting, I was simply being lazy. Oh well. I wanted to do a post about the Golden Globes, but it’s been 6 days and I’m over it. Everyone looked fabulous, except for Jane Fonda (We get it, you’re 77 and look great. Stop dressing like a slut) and my girl Lana (Mermaid chic is NOT a thing) and Keira Knightly and Rosamund Pike…ok a lot of people looked like shit, but you can do your own researching if you need hard evidence (E!Online, Celebuzz). Don’t say I didn’t warn you. Also, George Clooney’s speech was perfection and I almost cried. Ok I’m done. Onto the Top 3…

3. Great Movies
So this kind of has to do with the Golden Globes…Oh well. SO MANY MOVIES!! It’s like Oprah was giving away screen plays in 2014 (more like 2012 when production started) and brilliant actors were getting their shit together. Unfortunately I haven’t seen most of this year’s nominations/winners because I’ve been too busy watching Criminal Minds and starting projects that I don’t plan on finishing. Fortunately this gives me something to do for the next few weeks (days) and I can make some use out of On Demand (sorry about the charges mom) and my Regal Crown Club card that I have zero understanding of. Which ones am I most excited to see? Boyhood looks amazing and I love Ethan Hawke, plus Richard Linklater spent 12 years producing the film so it deserves to be watched by everyone. I’m also excited about Wild, Birdman, Saint Vincent, Selma, The Theory of Everything, Cake, Inherent Vice…ok I basically want to see all of them. There’s also a lot of new movies coming out in theaters soon that I need to see like American Sniper. I know what I’ll be doing for the rest of this disgusting winter.

2. Makeup (it’s not so scary)

I’ve always been one of those girls who didn’t really wear makeup, aside from the occasional mascara or lipstick. Before you roll your eyes, let me state that this is not one of those “oh I just don’t need makeup because my face is perfect and life is fabulous” situations. Not even close. I just never knew how to do it. I once wore blue eyeshadow to school when I was 13. Needless to say, I was scarred. I guess the wound has healed because as of late I’ve really been getting into the whole looking-presentable-for-life thing. Hours and hours of Youtube videos later (seriously, there are SO many about makeup) I started to attempt to create a “look” for myself. I’m still working on it, baby steps ok? But as of right now I’m working on brown eyeliner (more natural look) pressed into my lash line, filling in my brows and using a highlighter. It’s all I can handle right now and I think I’m doing pretty well if I do say so myself. Meaning, no one has given me the look of death…yet.

1. My Shows Are Back
I hate, no, I ABHOR the fact that cable tv shows go on hiatus during the holiday season. Sorry but I really don’t want to hang out with my family and I’m not working, so this would be the PERFECT time to air new episodes. Apparently I’m the only one who thinks so. Alas, the holidays are over and my shows (most of them) are back. I have New Girl, Mindy, About a Boy, MasterChef Jr. and Parks & Rec (FINALLY) back on Tuesdays (thank Yeezus for DVR); Criminal Minds, Modern Family, Workaholics and Broad City on Wednesdays; Thursdays are for DVR’d shows; and Shark Tank to wrap up the week on Friday! Even the weekends keep me going with SNL on Saturday (duh) and Girls on Sunday night. All is good again. And it’s nice to have something new to look forward to besides sleep…
