Met Gala 2013

It’s that time of the year again where celebs across the globe flock to New York City’s Metropolitan Museum of Art for the Costume Institute Benefit. The exhibit’s theme this year is Punk: Chaos to Couture. I love anything and everything “punk” so I was ecstatic while waiting to see some of this year’s fashionable interpretations of the theme. Needless to say, I was very impressed. Check out some of my fav looks and even some of my most hated ones of the evening.

Unlike everyone else in the world, I have stood strong by Anne Hathaway and this whole outfit just proves my stance.  This vintage Valentino is amazingly chic and looks perfect on her petite frame. But my favorite part: the hair. I just can’t. It’s amazing and I can’t stop staring at it. I was quick to jump on the platinum train (aka I loved it on everyone BUT me) when Miley made the change, and I love it even more now that Anne has joined the group. It’s such a bold look and Anne is killing it.

I love Emma Watson and the fact that she has left her “Harry Potter awkwardness” behind and has adapted to young adulthood.  She is looking fierce in this Prabal Gurung cutout piece, doing punk in a subtle way. The simple hair, makeup,  and pumps make her look her age- something that many actresses lose sight of (you’re 18, put some pants on). This look would have been an A++ had she donned some punky accessories like a spiked bracelet and some fierce rings.

Givenchy is all over this red carpet and I am loving every second of it. Rooney Mara is not spared in my crazed love fest. I think I may have had heart palpitations when I first saw Mara’s photo on Popsugar. The cut, color, fit and fabric of this gown are everything- don’t even get me started on the shoes (I’ll give you a hint: too DIE for). Everything down to her slick, pulled back hair and fiercely dark lipstick make this whole look too chic for words. In a room full of black, Mara shines in white and she kills it. I think this may be my favorite of the night. Yep. It is.

This ensamble is everything. The gown, the shoes, the HEADPIECE! I love it all. SJP did everything right here with her Giles Deacon gown and fabulous Philip Treacy headdress that I’m absolutely obsessed with. She took the “punk” theme to another level and just perfected everything here. You win this one SJP.

My fav GIRLS star Allison Williams is killing it in this sheer Joseph Altuzarra piece. The different panels of fabric give this gown so much dimension, but the black keeps it chic and classic. I wish she would have put her hair up to show off the neck line a little more, but you can’t win them all.

There are so many more ensambles that I am crushing on right now, but I don’t want to over stimulate your brains. If you have a second (you do), check out the other fab pieces worn by: Nicole Richie, Tay Swift, Blake LivelyJLo and Dakota Fanning.

Obviously this wouldn’t be a good post without some horrible outfits, so here they are:

Worst Dressed

I’ll be the first to admit that I have a serious girl crush on Miley- like borderline obsessive (aka completely obsessive). I was loving on her outfit before I realized that she was donning a Kate Moss repeat. Honestly, I really don’t give a shit because, hello we all wear the same clothes, but when you’re constantly in the spotlight, you should try and steer clear from the same thing another spotlighter wore (and looked fab in). Then again, I’m not famous so like, what do I know?

Honestly, I’m a huge fan of Kimmy K’s Riccardo Tisci gown- I just don’t think it’s a winner when you’re seriously preggo.  Don’t get me wrong- I’ve already announced my hatred via twitter for people bashing on Kimmy’s weight gain (um HELLO she’s pregnant, that’s what happens)- but I think she would have been better suited with a simpler piece.  With that being said, this long-sleeve gown hides the belly well and she is still just as stunning as ever. (*Note, my mind keeps changing so I’m half in love and half hate it…)

Ok, this one I ACTUALLY hate. Madona- I love you, but this is just not ok. I know you have a rockin’ bod and you just never age, but like, you’re 54 years old. Please stop dressing like your daughter. She just went too far here. Had she paired the blazer with some hotpants or literally anything besides whatever the hell she has on, I would have loved it…but alas, she did not. Oh, and the pink shoes? Like, why?

The sun goddess has arrived. I love Mary-Kate and her crazy digs, but this one is just not for me.  MK’s small frame drowns in this vintage Dior and she truly stands out, but not in a good way. Had she maybe done an updo it would have been better, but everything together just makes me cringe a little and want to put on some sunnies.

I already have a serious vendetta against Lindsey Vonn, mostly because I was in love with Elin, but this poor excuse for a red carpet gown just makes our feud ten times worse. She looks like she is trying out her half of an angel/devil costume (not sure which one she is)  and um Linds, I think you better go with something else. Could you really not find anything else to wear besides this ill-fitting, white mesh, thing? Lets be real for a sec Linds- we all know you’re not just with Woods for his amazing honesty and ability to hold trust. I think he could have spared a few bucks for a personal stylist, or at least a trip to 5th Ave instead of Forever 21. In a word, you look like shit. Sorry I’m not. I still hate you.
